How Everett Voted in the 2020 Presidential Election Compared to 2016

Now the election is over and ballots have been counted, it is time to see what the city of Everett, Massachusetts, did in the 2020 presidential election compared to 2016.

The state of Massachusetts saw a decrease in voter turnout compared to 2016 (down from 79 percent of registered voters to 76 percent) due to an increase of registered voters, but the relative 2020 voter turnout by county looked very similar to 2016.

Let’s take a look at how Everett compared to every other city and town in Middlesex County. The next two graphs compare voter turnout and populations of every city and town in Middlesex County. Everett is a city with a population similar to its neighbor Malden, but Everett’s voter turnout is in the range of cities and towns like Wilmington and Stoneham. Everett currently has a population of 45,856, with 14,893 that voted, which is a turnout percentage of 32. In comparison, Malden has a population of 61,094, with 25,757 that voted, which is a turnout percentage of 42. Everett shares a similar voter turnout number with a town that has a smaller population like Wilmington, which had a voter turnout at 14,916 and about half the population size of Everett at 23,658, which is a turnout percentage of 63. Similarly, Stoneham has a lower population at 22,144, with 14,436 voting, which is a turnout percentage of 65.

Here is how Everett compared to just its surrounding cities when looking at voter turnout, registered voters, and total population. The percentages on the bar columns from left to right represent the amount of the population that casted a ballot and the registered voters for each city. The last column for each city is the total population of the cities.

Lastly, President-elect Joe Biden was the winner in Everett for the 2020 presidential election. Both Democrat and Republican candidate’s parties saw their votes increase compared to 2016. However, the other parties saw their votes decrease.
